Prophesee Metavision® STM32F7 Starter Kit
Embedded event-based vision development kit for STM32 devices

The Prophesee Metavision® STM32F7 Starter Kit is a development system for embedded event-based vision applications. It is optimized for use with STM32 devices (sold separately) and connects the GenX320 sensor via the STM32 DCMI parallel interface.

Two configurations of the STM32F7 Starter Kit are available, both featuring Prophesee’s Metavision® GenX320 Event-based Vision sensor and offering Plug-n-Play functionality for immediate use. You can choose between:

  1. STM32F7 (GenX320) - Chip on Board: A development kit with an S-mount lens holder.
  2. STM32F7 (GenX320) - Compact Optical Module: Built from the GenX320 CM2 compact module with integrated optics.

At its core, the GenX320 is a 320x320 6.3μm pixel BSI stacked event-based Metavision® sensor. It is specifically designed for embedded vision and power-sensitive applications, with a focus on improving integrability and usability in at-the-edge vision systems. Key features include event data pre-processing and formatting, data interface compatibility, and low-latency connectivity to various processing platforms, including the latest low-power, neuromorphic processors. The sensor is optimized for very low power operation, offering a hierarchy of application-specific power modes.

The GenX320 Compact Optical Module integrates several components:

  • Event Signal Processing (ESP) pipeline: Handles timestamping, filtering, throughput regulation, and data formatting.
  • Event Rate Controller (ERC): Caps the output event rate at a programmable limit.
  • Spatio-Temporal Contrast (STC) filter: Detects and removes redundant event bursts and trails caused by high contrast features.
  • Anti-Flicker (AFK) filter: Detects and filters events generated by flickering lights. Its stop-band frequency is adjustable between 50-500 Hz with arbitrary spans.

Event-Based Vision (EVS) sensors and neuromorphic engineering technology have overcome the limits encountered with traditional machine vision technology, and enabled many exciting applications to be developed including object tracking, fall detection, eye tracking, gesture recognition, constellation tracking, motion analysis, and vibration tracking.
