Before you can use the GigE camera, you need to assign a valid IP address to the camera. You have the following options:
•Assign a persistent IP address.
•Use DHCP to assign a valid IP address automatically, if a DHCP server is available in your network.
•Use a link-local address.
IDS Vision cameras have the following factory default settings:

You can change the IP configuration using the IDS peak command line tool ids_ipconfig, see Configuring network settings. You can also use the IDS peak Cockpit to adapt your configuration. |
Persistent IP address
If you use a persistent IP address, make sure that the camera is on the same subnet as the connected PC and that the IP address is not used by any other device in the same network.

It is recommended to use a persistent IP address, especially if you are unsure that you have a DHCP server. With a persistent IP address, establishing a connection to your GigE camera is faster than with link-local. |
DHCP
The IP address of your camera is automatically assigned by the DHCP server. Select a high lease time (ideally infinite) to ensure that the DHCP server does not change the IP address during camera operation.
If there is no DHCP server available (timeout), a link-local address is used.
Link-local (auto IP)
The system automatically finds a link-local address in the range between 169.254.1.0 and 169.254.254.255. This mode cannot be disabled. It serves as fallback, if DHCP is enabled and there is no DHCP server available.
