text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-7bN1vidv8y4\/ViAO2AP1nBI\/AAAAAAAAOwM\/-ky4ntBfrjI\/s1600\/boxing%2Bglove.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-7bN1vidv8y4\/ViAO2AP1nBI\/AAAAAAAAOwM\/-ky4ntBfrjI\/s1600\/boxing%2Bglove.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Sony Pregius imaging sensors with a newly advanced pixel design provide unsurpassed high dynamic range, quantum efficiency and excellent signal to noise (SNR) ratios.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>With a Dynamic range of 73 dB and a quantum efficiency of 76% (@ 525nm), this sensor will become a major work horse in the industrial imaging market.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Comparing these data points however can be mind boggling and leave you asking, \u201cWhat\u2019s the end result?\u201d 1<sup>st<\/sup> Vision put the CMOSIS CMV2000 and new Sony Pregius IMX174 into the ring to battle it out!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">The old phrase of \u201cA picture is worth a thousand words\u201d definitely stands true in comparing sensors and reviewing images.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In our battle, we compared the CMOSIS CMV2000 (2MP CMOS)\u00a0 sensor to the new Sony Pregius IMX174 (2.3MP CMOS) sensor. \u00a0We reviewed several of the key sensor aspects and are as follows.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><b>Specifications<\/b><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">From the specification standpoint, the IMX174 provides better values across the board.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.1stvision.com\/cameras\/Sony-Pregius-global-shutter-CMOS-sensors.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(Refer to the SonyPregius Sensor page for detailed information on the terms)<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <b>Comparison Data: <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; Dynamic Range<\/span><\/span><\/b><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">Saturation Capacity or &#8220;well depth&#8221; is analogous to a bucket of water, however in lieu of water, we have electrons.\u00a0 Given a larger bucket, we can pour more water in the bucket without it overflowing.\u00a0 The water overflowing is analogous to &#8220;saturation&#8221;.\u00a0 In turn, a sensor that has a larger saturation capacity (bigger bucket) can hold more electrons (water) without saturating (overflowing).\u00a0 This would relate to the sensors overall dynamic range in that it will not saturate quickly in a given image, allowing us to see darker and lighter areas.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">The example below shows images comparing the CMV2000 and IMX174.\u00a0 These were captured with the same lens, camera manufacturer and set at the identical exposures.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">Looking at these images, which one is the better sensor?\u00a0 We would want to quickly say, &#8220;The brighter one!&#8221;, however brighter does not always mean better!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">On the left CMOSIS image, we see a noticeable difference as it is starting to saturate especially on the lower right corner.\u00a0 The colors are reaching peak levels in which they are close to saturating (brighter image).\u00a0 For this given light level, our small &#8220;buckets&#8221; are getting full!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">On the right IMX174 image, we can see similar brightness levels in the upper left corners, but the bottom right part of the image is NOT saturating, as well as the markers are not reaching peak values.\u00a0 In essence, we have a small bucket with the CMV2000 and will overflow much faster than the larger bucket with the IMX174.\u00a0 Relating back to our values in the chart, saturation capacity and dynamic range are much greater on the IMX174 and can be visibly seen in the images! <b>\u00a0<\/b><i>Sony Pregius wins round 1.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><i>(Knowing this.. the brighter image does not always mean its a better sensor! )<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/--euTtpmCA2U\/ViFH4m4C2HI\/AAAAAAAAOw8\/zD6xcSoXgUA\/s1600\/Dynamic%2BRange.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/--euTtpmCA2U\/ViFH4m4C2HI\/AAAAAAAAOw8\/zD6xcSoXgUA\/s400\/Dynamic%2BRange.JPG\" width=\"400\" height=\"140\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><b>Round 2: \u00a0Quantum Efficiency (Sensitivity)<\/b><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">In comparing the Quantum Efficiency values, we see the IMX174 is 13% higher.\u00a0 This relates to the conversion of photons to electrons and in turn providing a higher numeric value in our image.\u00a0 The images below were taken in very low light with a 10uS exposure.\u00a0 The IMX174 provides a brighter image due to this added efficiency.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
