uEye LE - Webcam pricing, commercial features!
Very simply put, uEye LE cameras were designed to address OEMs
frustrations of using webcams. Many designers choose a webcam for a price point
for their product. They soon become frustrated because webcams have several
major problems for use in commercial applications:
1. They do not come with a SDK. They are designed for a simple
application, like non essential videoconferencing. You don't need a SDK to have
the kids say hello to grandma!
2. The sensors in a particular model of webcam may change
several times a year. Webcam designers are not worried about you doing image
processing!
3. Webcams do not offer a variety of resolutions , nor a
product family!
4. Webcams do not come in a variety of housings, or board
level.
5. Webcams do not offer lensing options.
The uEye LE series does not quite hit the $99 price point,
although it does get very close to around the low $200s
for very large quantities (contact 1stVision for exact details of pricing for various models),
and it does
offer a solution to all the above issues.
It has a full SDK, available in C/C++/C#/VB. It also comes
with TWAIN, DirectX/DirectShow and ActiveX drivers.
All sensors are from Micron technologies. They are part of a
product family from WVGA to 5 Megapixels.
The cameras come either in a housing with a CS mount, or as a
board camera with a S mount (M12 or M14), or finally as a board camera with no
lens mount.
